The CSAP Prevention Fellowship Program was launched in 2006 in an effort to build a workforce of substance abuse professionals. The Prevention Fellowship Program has two components: a 2-year Fellowship Program and a 10-week Summer Internship for graduate students. The overarching purpose of the fellowship and internship programs is to develop and sustain a well‐trained and knowledgeable cadre of prevention professionals who understand and exemplify the principles and best practices of substance abuse prevention. In addition to building competencies in diverse areas of public, behavioral, and allied health practice, fellows and interns have opportunities to develop critical research, writing, evaluation, and presentation skills within a structured training program. Through participation in Prevention Fellowship Program activities and trainings, and through the work at a State agency or national organization, fellows and interns can forge a strong network of peers and public, behavioral, and allied health professionals who can support and sustain their professional growth.Synergy Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) manages the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) Fellowship and Graduate Student Internship Program, on behalf of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) funds the Prevention Fellowship Program and works to improve the quality of substance abuse prevention practices nationwide. Through its discretionary grant programs, the center provides States, communities, organizations, and families with tools to promote protective factors and reduce risk factors for substance abuse. CSAP is one of the three centers of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). SAMHSA was created as a service agency to focus attention, programs, and funding on improving the lives of people with or at risk for mental and substance abuse disorders.
SEI is a Maryland-based company that provides information technology and management consulting services to a steadily growing local, national, and international clientele in the public and private sectors.
