Background:
Somaliland was a British colony and ofcourse, English was the medium of instruction and the official language of the country. However, that English status seized in 1973 when the military junta the ruled over 21 years, turned to the Somali language as the official language of the state and the medium of instruction at levels of schools.The breakaway Republic of Somaliland has made English language as one of the official languages of the country the medium of instruction for high schools. However, Somaliland students are still very weak in this discipline. Therefore, the need to offer special English classes for our students and the public at large.
Our Students learn English for a variety of reasons: to improve their conversational English; to prepare for examinations; to gain entry to an English-speaking college or university; or to use English in their work, so the content of lessons varies. The level of the students ability may also vary, depending on the setting where the classes take place. The aim of each lesson is to encourage the students to communicate with each other using the structures and vocabulary they have learnt, and to improve the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Typical work activities include:
• teaching English;
• classroom management;
• planning, preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes and age groups (15 and above);
• meeting syllabus requirements;
• preparing and setting tests, examination papers, and exercises;
• marking and providing appropriate feedback on oral and written work;
• devising, writing and producing new materials, including audio and visual resources;
• holding teacher seminars for other teachers;
• organizing and getting involved in social and cultural activities such as sports competitions, schools parties, dinners, excursions and pricing events appropriately;
• participating in marketing events for the school;
• running specialist courses for adults or business people, which may require knowledge of scientific, technical or commercial terms;
• basic administration such as keeping student registers and attendance records for starters and leavers.
Student levels vary from elementary to advanced English (English as a second language or English as a foreign language).___________
Apart from English courses, successful candidate will also provide certain lectures for undergraduate students in our Global Development & Environmental Studies programme.
____________Each lecturer is expected to teach minimum of four contact hours a day, five days a week. The total workload will not exceed the total of 30 hours.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a Native English Speaker preferably with a Masters Degree(or PGDip) in any Social Sciences field (eg. development studies, international relations, political sciences etc.) or a Non-native English speaker with proven sound English Language Knowledge (with academic achievement and experience in English language teaching)[We will also consider candidates with a Bachelor Degree and good experience in English/Development sector. Anyone who is pursuing a postgraduate degree by distance learning is welcome to apply].
Apart from that we expect the candidates to be willing to work in flexible conditions and can adapt with the surroundings.

A full furnished accomodation(a new villa with shared kitchen with other international faculty members) and local transport will be provided along with a decent living allowance. We will also reimburse the airfare.
The visas and work permits are also facilitated by the University.
