The Native Plant Nursery Intern will work to organize and coordinate native plant nursery operations and assist the Salmon Protection and Watershed Network (SPAWN) intiative in entering the growing market for native plants. The Native Plant Nursery Intern will gain technical skills in plant identification, native plant propagation, nursery design and management, as well as business management skills to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

• Native plant nursery operations and maintenance (e.g. seed collection, plant propagation, transplantation)
• Watering and irrigation
• Volunteer recruitment, coordination, training, and supervision
• Inventory management
• Data entry and database management
• Biweekly posting on organization blog


Desired Skills/Qualifications:
• Experience in biology/environmental studies
• Interest in botany/horticulture
• Experience in fieldwork and/or habitat restoration
• Ability to organize and motivate volunteers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to use PC or Mac proficiently (Windows Office)
• Familiarity with spreadsheet software (e.g. MS Excel)
• Valid driver’s license (own vehicle a plus)

Terms of Employment:
• Project Duration: 12 weeks
o Two week trial period and possibility for internship extension after 12 week evaluation
• Total hours: 40 hours/week
• Compensation: stipend unavailable; cost-free housing may be available (space limited)

• Outdoor appropriate apparel
• Field notebook recommended
