Company/Organization: Rosies Theater Kids

Description:

Description

The Rosie’s Theater Kids Summer Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for current college students to gain experience working with underserved children at an influential arts-education nonprofit in New York City. Rosie’s Theater Kids (RTKids) offers drama, dance, vocal, and musical theater training to low-income NYC students. The organization also has a strong focus on academic mentorship and pre-college preparation.

Rosie’s Theater Kids is currently accepting applications for summer interns. Interns will be expected to assist with our summer intensive program for students aged 10-17. The program runs from July 1st to mid-August. Interns work 7-hour daily shifts from Monday-Friday. Although experience with the arts is helpful, it is not required and interns do not teach artistic classes. The most successful interns will be interested in a career working with underprivileged children in an arts-related capacity.

Responsibilities

• Manage and engage with large groups of children (25-30) as they prepare for artistic classes and transition between different classes during the day
• Set up, monitor, and take down lunch
• Assist our summer intensive program director with various tasks during the day, including recording attendance and monitoring students as they check in/out, inputting grade reports, fitting dancewear, and covering front desk reception duties as needed

Qualifications:

Requirements

• Experience working with large groups of children, ideally at summer camps or after-school programs
• A hardworking attitude and willingness to both follow directions and take initiative
• The willingness and ability to lift and carry moderately-heavy objects (such as large folding tables or bins of costumes)
• An interest in the performing arts (experience preferred but not necessary)
• An interest in working with economically-disadvantaged populations of children, and a sensitivity to the unique challenges they may face at home
• Though not a requirement, students with specialized skills such as lightboard operation, graphic design, or video editing are encouraged to apply
