The Northwest R-I School District Community Relations Department has an internship position open for the upcoming spring semester. The goal of this internship program is to provide a college student with valuable “real life” experience in a variety of areas within public relations/community relations.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?? During the semester-long internship, you will be exposed to a broad variety of public relations experiences. Learning opportunities will include:?• Media Relations -– writing news releases, media pitches, and assisting in media escorts.
• Publications –– design and writing for the District’s internal and external publications. Assignments may include interviewing, writing, editing, and taking photographs.
• Writing ––interns will have the opportunity to practice and improve their writing skills. In addition to writing for publications and media, interns may write content for the District’s website, social media platforms and ghost write letters and formal e-mails for various audiences.
• Marketing –– the Community Relations Department markets various District-sponsored programs and events. Interns may have the opportunity to assist with these campaigns.
• Event Planning –– Community Relations is responsible for planning various District events. Interns will have the opportunity to assist in the planning and implementation of these events.

Bottom line: The Community Relations Department wants this internship to be as valuable for you as it is for us. You will be included in as many projects and experiences as possible and encouraged to pursue other interests as they become available.?

Qualifications:


WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM YOU? ?Candidate should have strong writing and editing skills. Internship hours are flexible with a minimum of 10-12 hours per week.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM US?? The intern will be provided with an individual workstation, a PC computer, a telephone, several software programs and an e-mail account. Other resources will be provided as necessary. The Community Relations Department understands you will be here to learn. You will be provided with a variety of learning opportunities along with the mentoring/assistance you need to excel. Compensation: The District is not able to provide monetary compensation for interns. Beyond the valuable work experience an intern will gain in this position, he or she will have a variety of writing samples and projects to be used in a portfolio. If desired, a letter of reference will be provided for the intern upon completion of the internship.
