3E Event Volunteer

Barakat’s 3E event “Engage, Educate, Empower” is an elegant but casual evening that features wines, appetizers, desserts, and silent auction items. The event is on Wednesday, April 2nd, from 6--8:30 pm, at the Microsoft NERD Center in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA. The event is open to everyone who wants to learn about Barakat’s mission!

There are two options available for volunteering:
Volunteer now till the event is over (the night of April 2nd)
Volunteer the day of the event (April 2nd, Noon – 9:30 pm)

Volunteers will work anywhere from 5 – 10 hours a week. More hours might be required close to the event. On the day of the event, all staff and volunteers are required to work from Noon till 9:30 PM.

Qualifications:

The ideal volunteer(s) will have some knowledge and experience with fundraisers and event planning in a nonprofit environment, but it is not required. Candidates must have the ability to work independently, as well as with a dedicated group of interns and volunteers, in a small work environment. Volunteers should have highly effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational skills, creative problem solving skills and working well with diverse population would suit this position well.

Specific Job Duties:
-Assist a Barakat Event Coordinator Intern with event planning, logistics, marketing, and management.
-Solicit/secure in-kind donations and auction items from various vendors.
-Coordinate the delivery and organization of all in-kind auction donations and items.
-Market the event to diverse/various markets within the Greater Boston area.
-Assist in all event activities, including event inquiries, meetings, follow-up, registration, and record keeping.
Identify and network with corporations, community groups, schools and key donors to promote the fundraising campaign(s).
-Act as an on-site manager during the event, overseeing activities, attendees, staff and volunteers to ensure satisfaction of participants and resolutions of problems.
-Pass/serve appetizers and desserts to attendees.
-Manage the event program and time-line.
