Description:

The Summer Engineering Experience for Kids program, (SEEK), is the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) premiere solution to the underrepresentation of African American students in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. The free, three week program is a STEM pipeline designed to expose African American children to STEM fields as early as the third grade in a fun and engaging way.

We are currently recruiting motivated and highly qualified students for internship opportunities to work at the National Society of Black Engineers World Headquarters in Alexandria, VA to contribute to the development and planning of our national SEEK program.

Our ideal candidate is someone who is highly analytical, creative and has a strong work ethic to see a project through to completion with thoroughness and attention to detail. Must have excellent customer service skills, the ability to multi-task, work independently and produce outstanding results.

Responsibilities- Possible Areas of Focus

Program Development & Operations
Special events and projects
Research and program evaluation (administering and collecting surveys, inputting data, analyze
Marketing & Recruitment of Students and Seasonal Mentors
Relationship building with our online community by maintaining Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other media accounts.

Qualifications:

What We Require:

Background in Social services, Marketing, Communication, non-profit management, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), or other related discipline.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite Office (EXCEL, WORD, POWERPOINT).
Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.
Creative and Flexible.
Familiarity with social networking sites desired, but we will also train.
Interested in the issues of equal access to learning resources and generally socially conscious individual
Interest in nonprofit management and community development.

Eligibility

Eligible students must be:

A rising sophomore, junior, or senior or graduate student (in the 2014-2015 academic year) enrolled in a full-time college or university;
A resident of Washington DC, Maryland, or Virginia or attending an institution of higher education in the DMV

Physical requirements

Intern must be physically able to life/ move up to 50 pounds as well as sitting, standing, walking, stooping, squatting, pushing, and pulling.

Academic Credit

If intern wishes to receive academic credit for the internship, it will be the intern’s responsibility to make arrangements with his or her school. NSBE will provide the necessary job description and performance review upon request.
