Description:

The Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research at Cornell University offers summer internships to enrolled undergraduate and local high school students interested in biological research. Our internships provide an excellent opportunity to gain research experience and explore if a scientific career is right for you. Currently we have positions in two areas: Plant Genome Research and Bioinformatics.

Applications for 2015 are now being accepted.

All interns will have the opportunity to:
• Work closely with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and scientists on a supervised independent project within the framework of the mentors research program
• Attend weekly plant science seminars with scientists from BTI, Cornell University and the USDA
• Learn about graduate school, scientific careers, research ethics, and work in an international environment
• Present research to the other students, scientists, and mentors at our Annual Student Symposium

Qualifications:

Eligibility: Students must be either US citizens or permanent US residents (green card holder). Undergraduate applicants must be enrolled in a college/university. For the undergraduate internship, you must be at least 18 at time of internship. For the high school internship, students must be at least 16 at time of internship. (Housing is not provided for high school students and students must provide their own transportation to and from BTI each day.)

Underrepresented minority students, first generation college students and students from two and four year colleges are strongly encouraged to apply.

Interns Receive:

Work experience in an international community of scientists who come together in research to protect the environment, enhance human health, and improve agriculture around the world.

Housing: Undergraduate interns will receive group housing on Cornell campus. (Housing is not provided for high school interns.)

Stipend: Selected undergraduates 18 years and older receive group housing on Cornell campus, a meal allowance, travel subsidy and up to $5,250 stipend over 10 weeks. High school interns receive up to $3,050 stipend over 6-weeks.
