The Sustainable Procurement Practice Group (SPPG) at UNOPS leads the organization’s sustainable procurement practice and is responsible for all matters of organizational development in procurement and supply chain management. It is responsible for developing procurement strategies, policies, and processes. SPPG provides authoritative guidance and procurement advice. It enables oversight and develops procurement and supply chain knowledge networks and training tools to strengthen skills in public procurement while advancing sustainable practices. SPPG is also responsible for a significant percentage of the transactional procurement volume of UNOPS which totalled 740 Mio. USD in 2012.
The Sustainability team at SPPG is responsible for strategy development and implementation of sustainable procurement at UNOPS. The team acts as a think tank for sustainable procurement within UNOPS, formulating and articulating sustainable procurement policy, ensuring the roll-out of sustainable procurement practices at UNOPS, and contributing to the overall sustainability programme and strategy at UNOPS. It liaises with key stakeholders in the UNOPS country offices and external partners. It advises UNOPS country offices on complex procurement cases and develops and delivers training and education programmes on sustainability and sustainable procurement.
In an effort to accelerate and promote delivery of sustainable procurement, SPPG drives sustainable procurement implementation in the delivery practice. The SPPG Sustainability Team is looking for an intern to support with various activities in the area of Sustainable Procurement. The intern will work in close collaboration with various stakeholders of the Sustainable Procurement Practice Group and report to the Team Manager, Sustainability team.

Functional Responsibilities

UNOPS is looking for an intern to assume duties related to the following work programme:

- Support the Sustainable Procurement team in various activities included in their work plan. This may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Support the development and roll out of a supplier diversity programme initially focused on women-owned businesses.
- Support the development of the team’s outreach material and publications.
- Develop and maintain a library of UNOPS sustainable procurement cases.
- Support the development of a corporate environmental management system.
- Support for various training activities.
- Support implementation of sustainable procurement in UNOPS operations and processes.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Specific deliverables will be agreed upon based on the qualifications and skills of selected candidate together with the Team Manager, Sustainability.

Education:

Applicants must be enrolled in a university degree such as a Bachelor, Masters or Doctoral degree in International Policy and Development Studies, Economics, Business, Environmental Management or a related subject, or have graduated within three years prior to the application date of the internship.
Experience:
A good understanding of procurement processes, in particular of the public sector is desirable.
While no prior work experience is required, some expertise in one of these areas: Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Management or equivalent will be considered an asset.
Project management experience will be an asset.
Excellent computer skills, in particular substantial expertise with Word, PowerPoint and Excel is required.
Language requirements:
Fluency in English is required;
Working knowledge of any additional UN language will be an asset.

Interns are responsible for arranging their own travel and securing any necessary visas.
Flexible working schedules may be arranged.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend of 900 USD per month from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, insurance coverage and any necessary visas.
