Description: The Greater Washington Heart Walk is the American Heart
Association’s mission in action. This annual celebration promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun, family environment. As the signature fundraising event, the Greater Washington Heart Walk is expected to raise $2,500,000 for the American Heart Association’s life-saving mission.

Internship will include the following professional development opportunities:

? Project Management: Intern will be responsible for assisting the Heart Walk Team with day to day tasks and work closely with the Special Event Administrator to plan a successful DC Heart Walk. Example project includes recruiting Miracle Mile entertainment and help promote this new Heart Walk feature. The Miracle Mile is an opportunity for those who are affected by Heart Disease and Stroke to participate at the Heart Walk by walking an entertainment filled mile at their own pace.

? Volunteer Management: Assist participants with fundraising through the Heart Walk website.

? Procurement: Intern will assist in donation requests, in-kind donation solicitations, Heart Walk day of event logistics, marketing projects, and data management.

? Additional projects and responsibilities may be added as needed.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidate is skilled in Microsoft Office, has strong communication skills and experience fundraising. Preferred majors include, but are not limited to: Business Management, Non-profit management, Marketing, Communications, Event Planning, and Public Health.

Desired Qualifications of Special Event Intern:
o Possess excellent computer skills and proficiency with using the Microsoft Office suite
o Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
o Demonstrate the ability to interact with all levels of AHA/ASA staff and volunteers
o Demonstrate the ability to multi-task with minimal supervision
o Maintain confidentiality of all AHA/ASA and volunteer information
o Motivated and self-directed

Unpaid Internship. A background check is required. Office is metro accessible and we will reimburse for metro travel.

Since its inception in 1991, LHH has grown to attract over 5,500 participants and supporters and has raised almost $10 million dollars for the American Heart Association. These funds are allocated towards the amazing research, educational and training programs, and other initiatives that the American Heart Association carries out, as a part of its mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
