A NYC curatorial firm, specializing in both established and emerging art, is currently accepting applications for our Fall 2018 Registrar & Archivist Internship. This internship offers an immersive experience within the contemporary art world with a focus on registrar and archival responsibilities. The intern will gain a deep understanding of the role of a registrar including learning professional standards and documentation within the context of the art market and art history. The intern will be exposed to essential areas including: provenance and historical due diligence, art market analysis, collection management, traditional and non-traditional research methodologies, and innovative ways to document large archives of information.

The internship is a unique experience to partake in the documentation and archiving of primary materials for art historical purposes. Interns will help to organize, catalog, and archive institutional collection[s]. As part of a dynamic team, the intern have the opportunity to learn and perform a host of registrar and archivist tasks. This internship is ideal for students and young professionals interested in registrar and collections management work, art history, information management, and museum & art gallery practices.

Internship length is generally twelve to fourteen (12-14) weeks, with a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week in the Manhattan office beginning in September and running until December 2018. Start/end dates and work hours are slightly flexible for qualified candidates. This internship provides daily stipend and academic credit is available upon request should interns need to meet specific university requirements.

Qualifications:

Responsibilities include:
-Client and art object file management
-Cataloging
-Archiving
-Database management
-Specialty assignments including: object research, art historical, provenance research and digital art historical research

Qualifications:
-Full-time, degree-seeking student enrolled at the time of the internship OR post-graduate with experience in art history, art object research, or registrar work (MA or BA are acceptable levels)
-Must have NYC or tri-state area housing available
-Superlative ability in verbal and written communication
-Excellent organizational skills, technology savvy, and research oriented

Requirements:
-Successful applicants are not necessarily art history majors, but MUST demonstrate a strong interest in contemporary culture & humanities
-A self-starter with the ability to work both independently and within a dynamic team
-Excellent editorial & organizational skills
-Excellent research skills
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication
-Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) & InDesign preferred
-Technology proficient and preferable to be familiar with archival databases
