The Veterinary Technician Student Preceptorship Program is designed for veterinary technician students in their final year of an accredited program who wish to acquire experience working in a clinical setting with a zoological population. The program will offer hands–on opportunities to work with a wide range of species. The preceptorship must be part of the required curriculum and count toward graduation credits. This program is voluntary, and no stipend or housing is available. Dates and durations of the preceptorship are flexible; however, a minimum of six weeks of 40-hours/week is required.PROGRAM DETAILS:
Zoo Atlanta offers an opportunity each year for a Veterinary Technician in his or her final year of an accredited program. The externship must be part of the required curriculum and count towards graduation credits. This program is voluntary and no stipend is available.The program is designed for students who wish to acquire experience working in a clinical setting with a zoological collection and will offer hands on opportunities to work with a wide range of species. The zoo veterinarians and the senior veterinary technician supervise this position. Anesthesia, restraint, sample collection, and laboratory techniques with exotic animals will be covered.
Dates and durations of the preceptorship are flexible; however, a minimum of six weeks of 40-hour/ week is required.
