The TeachUS”Write”™ Ultimate Writing System was created by a teacher in the Houston Independent School District in 2004. Since then, the intense writing system has been used in over a dozen schools and districts nationally. The phenomenal results have shown significant improvement in 96% of students’ writing abilities within 3-8 weeks. About 63% of students who use this program score in the “exceeding” category on their state standardized writing assessment. Back in 2006, 92% of 4th graders at a charter school in Dayton, Ohio met or exceeded the standards in writing on the Ohio Achievement Test, after participating in an 8 week writing workshop. The previous year, only 27% of 4th graders met the state standards. There were no other writing programs implemented during the course of the school year. The TeachUS”Write” Ultimate Writing System teaches students how to write expository, narrative and persuasive essays one sentence at a time and how to incorporate over 18 elaboration strategies directly into the essay such as onomatopoeia, hyperbole, simile, metaphor, personification, andsensory adjectives. The program is easy to learn, and uses fun mnemonic devices to aid students with memorization of advanced vocabulary and literary terms. We customize our materials to suit the unique interests of the diverse student population. Through a student survey, we are able to use hip-hop, pop culture, television shows, music, and video games to explain complex literary strategies. Most of our sample essays use Spongebob Squarepants, That’s So Raven, and other interesting subjects students can relate to.
