Beach Cleanup Internship
Description:
San Diego Coastkeeper, seeks an energetic, well-organized and self-motivated individual to fill the volunteer position of Beach Cleanup Intern. The intern will be a coordinator for our cleanup programs, manage and recruit volunteers, organize supplies and data, and educate the public about the results of our cleanups.Responsibilities:
Provide support to the Marine Debris Manager and the Volunteer coordinator to organize and host twice-monthly Beach Cleanups, Sponsored Cleanup Program, and Beach Cleanup in a Box Program.
Assist in planning and executing community events involving cleanups.
Responsibilities may include: coordinating with clients; preparation, inventory organization, and ordering of supplies, attending to and managing large cleanups; posting cleanups on community calendars; and quantifying data.
Manage, recruit and communicate with volunteers for the beach cleanup program.
Track all volunteer hours and maintain Volunteer Hour Tracking Database.
Fundraising, documentation, coordination and attending community meetings.
Assist Coastkeeper staff with tasks such as: preparing educational and outreach materials and presentations for the public; planning, fundraising and promotingcleanups and public education events; media outreach and communications: blogging, website updates, etc.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have experience with community organizing, event planning and volunteer management. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, highly developed organizational skills, and a demonstrated ability to engage, motivate, and manage community volunteers. Applicants working towards a B.A. or B.S. in the Natural Sciences are preferred. Experience with Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Power Point is required. He or she must be hard working, self-motivated, demonstrate a deep commitment and passion for environmental protection, and work independently and prioritize multiple projects. Familiarity with the regions water issues is preferred. Some physical exertion is required.
