Marketing, Communications, & Community Relations Intern

Share |

Description:

We’ve built a brilliant application that has already attracted thousands of customers. Next up: We’re shouting it from the rooftops!

All upcoming internships have a communications/marketing focus. Please have a look at the program info below, and then respond to the questions that follow.

Program info:
Each internship will last approximately 12 weeks, with some flexibility in shorter and slightly longer placements.

Internships are unpaid, though a small honorarium ($100 a week to offset your costs such as transportation) is provided.

All the internships for the upcoming sessions will be marketing/communications focused, though projects may differ based on your interests and abilities (SEM, video creation, writing, media relations, etc.). Interns absolutely must have excellent skills in verbal and written communications in English, and should be able to demonstrate a high level of comfort with online communication technologies.

What I want to build: With the help of a select group of interns, I want to build an awesome team that develops and implements communication strategies for getting the word out about Wave. The goal is for every small business owner in North America to know that Wave is a free online tool that can help their business; to get lots of them to sign up and try us out; and to give them the resources they need to make the most of Wave. This is an exciting time: Wave has gone from unknown to startup superstar in a very short time. You could be a part of our next phase of growth, and that’s a sweet thing to have on your resume.

Wave may or may not be hiring over the course of your internship, so please do not take this internship exclusively in the hopes of getting a paying job here when the internship is done. But as we grow, our hiring needs will grow too, and awesome interns are exactly where we would look first whenever possible.

Internships will be project-based, with one main focus that will take up about 50% of your time. These projects are flexible, and largely dependent on your interests and skill set. The other 50% of your duties will likely include: research into media opportunities; outreach (communicating with bloggers, media, customers); interaction and engagement with the Wave community; assisting at trade shows, consumer shows and conferences; social media monitoring; blogging and working with guest bloggers; customer service duties (email and phone). Duties will not include running menial errands. You will not be expected to do any dirty work that paid Wave staffers aren’t already willing to do themselves.

I expect to have 2-3 interns in the program at any given moment.

The magic happens at Wave HQ, in Leslieville (east of downtown Toronto; Queen & Carlaw). Off-site work will not be possible in most cases, though we could look at off-site options or flexible working hours for the last third of your internship.

Internships are generally 5 days a week; we could do 3.5 or 4 days for a candidate who really knocked our socks off.

The work environment is casual, supportive, fun and friendly. We work hard, but we like each other and enjoy each other’s company.
