Development Intern
Description:
Education: Graduate students, recent graduates, or upper level undergraduates.
Major/area(s) of study: Communications, public relations, marketing, nonprofit management, journalism, public affairs or related field.
Primary purpose: To provide day-to-day support for both the Executive Director and Resource Director, including assisting with special projects, task management, social networking, and various research and writing assignments.Intern Responsibilities:
• Research potential funding sources (foundations, corporations, individuals, public sources).
• Research and summarize issues for use in funding appeals.
• Explore creative ways to increase Civitan’s visibility.
• Contribute to the development of marketing materials (i.e., graphic design, layout) in conjunction with Civitan’s Resource Director.
• Work with staff on ways to further engage Civitans Board of Directors and develop major donors.
• Represent Civitan at donor events.
• Explore grant opportunities and assist with preparation of grant proposals.
• Participate in donor recruitment and follow-up.
• Assist with any and all event planning and set-up for annual charity events.
• Data entry and other administrative duties as needed.
• Other responsibilities as they develop, based on intern interest areas and organization needs.
Qualifications:
Intern Qualifications
• Upperclassmen pursuing a bachelors degree, recent graduates or students pursuing a masters degree in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, nonprofit management, public affairs, or a related field.
• Interest in improving the lives of individuals with special needs, with particular enthusiasm for the communication of pertinent information to funders and potential funders.
• Strong writing and research skills.
• Self-starter, flexible and able to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team or independently as needed.
• Creativity and openness to expressing new ideas and capacity to produce questions that will further Civitan’s mission.

Our flagship program, Camp Civitan in Williams, AZ, provides this targeted population a chance to play and learn together, enjoying the great outdoors, while providing much needed respite for caregivers and families. It is uniquely designed to meet the individual special needs of each camper, with programming provided by staff who are not only caring, but highly trained and experienced in serving individuals with developmental disabilities. Our programs offer the participants a variety of enriching and fun experiences that promote positive self-esteem and expression, teamwork, socialization, and healthy activities. They include adaptive educational and physical activities, community field trips, arts and crafts, nutrition classes, gross and fine motor skill training, and peer socialization.
