BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, a multi-disciplinary performing arts organization in Park Slope, Brooklyn, is seeking a motivated, intelligent, good-humored and organized individual to join the Artist Services and Development departments. This is a unique opportunity to work behind the scenes in a thriving non-profit arts organization and receive valuable hands-on experience in programming and fundraising. Intern will work closely with both the Executive/Artistic Director and Development Associate as well as other key personnel.

Start date: September 2, 2014
End date: January 30, 2015 (time off December 20-January 4)

Time Commitment: Approximately 20-25 hours per week in the office (ideally over 3 weekdays) plus some weekend and evening attendance at BAX events required.
Stipend: Up to $750 for the full term (approximately 19 weeks). Intern is also eligible to receive free performance tickets to any BAX production during the 2014/15 season as well as up to 20 hours of free rehearsal space.

Requirements:
• College or Graduate student, or recent graduate, with related experience and keen interest in pursuing a career in arts administration, curatorial or fund development sectors
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Database experience (ie. Filemaker Pro)
• Strong research skills
• Organized, detail oriented
• Personable and outgoing
• Previous work experience in the performing arts a plus
• Familiarity with and deep interest in NYC experimental dance/theater a BIG plus

Intern will assist the Executive/Artistic Director and Development Associate in administration, outreach and implementation of Artist Services events and programming, Engagement events and Fundraising activities including sponsorship. Intern will also act as a research assistant for both departments and liaise between departments at BAX (such as Marketing+Communications) as required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Assist with planning and outreach for our Fall Public Conversation event, Artist Services Day and annual Awards Gala.
• Assist with artist application processes, logistical support and outreach for our Artist Residencies, Space Grants and Upstart Festival
• Seek in-kind sponsorship for annual and ongoing events
• Provide assistance with grant research and artist-related research
• Assist with filing, database updates, and other administrative tasks as needed.

BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, founded in 1991, is a community based performing arts center dedicated to developing artists of all ages, from children to professionals. The organization offers community access to arts and culture, supporting the creation of new work by emerging artists, engaging diverse audiences and providing arts education to youth and families. BAX has intentionally constructed an environment where children study and professional artists create under the same roof. Students are mentored by professional directors and choreographers. The organization’s distinct focus on developmental process makes it a nurturing incubator for experimental dance and theater artists and is an important advocate for under-represented voices in the New York City performing arts community.
