Position Summary:
Reporting to the Sponsoring Editor, the Editorial Intern is a part-time position located in San Diego, CA.Do you love to read? Are you the person all your classmates turn to for help editing their papers? You just might make an excellent editorial intern!
We are looking for a college student going into his or her junior or senior year who is interested in working in the publishing or editing fields as a career (majors in English, Linguistics, or Communications preferred). You will get the chance to develop your editing skills and get firsthand experience with a cutting edge publishing department. You will get to be involved in working on academic texts in all different stages of development and on a wide variety of subjects. You will work with both print and digital (eBooks).
Essential Job Duties:
• Conduct photo research by searching photo databases for appropriate photos to illustrate the book’s concepts
• Correspond with subject matter experts, form review boards, and conduct reviews wherein the experts give us feedback on the manuscript
• Assist in reading manuscript and making edits and/or suggestions for improvement to the authorAdditional Job Duties (include but are not limited to):
• Use Microsoft Excel to create and update spreadsheets to track the stages of various book projects
• Use Microsoft Word to create author and contributor contract documents, based on an existing template.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
• Completion of one year of full time college instruction, or the equivalent.
• Grade point average of 3.0 or higher.Preferred Qualifications:
• Major in English, Linguistics, or Communications.
• Interest in pursuing editing and/or publishing as a career.
• Completion of two or more years of full time college instruction, or the equivalent.
