The Lambda Archives is looking for a talented and highly-independent Intern who is interested in acquiring hands-on experience in the Public Relations and Social Media fields. The Public relations/Social Media interns must have a true passion for maintaining good public relations with constituents, stakeholders, social media, technology, as well as trends and innovation in the digital and social space. The Intern must have excellent communication skills, demonstrate creativity, and should have a solid understanding of social media. This individual will be the first point of contact for all media-related projects as well as being the representative for our organization during public events. The intern should be able to work 10-15 hours during the current quarter/semester. These hours may be worked in any combination at the discretion of the intern with supervisor approval.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Media Relations: Respond to requests for information from the media or designate an appropriate spokesperson. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a cordial relationship with stakeholders, consumers, employees, and public interest groups.
• Arrange press conferences for the media in order to promote new policies, programs, or stances of SD LGBT Pride.
• Ad Campaign Management: work closely with the production team to produce or coordinate promotions and ads, as well as discuss their timing and placement.
• Research: assist with basic research as needed in order to engage the community and to investigate any trending activities within the community.
• Document Preparation: Prepare and/or edit organizational publications including newsletters, annual reports, and press releases.
• Community Management: Assist public affairs director with day-to-day community management, fan engagement, page and content moderation, and general outreach.
• Content Monitoring and Seeding: Assist in monitoring key online conversations and events to make sure brands are participating effectively and are being well-represented. Seeding approved content and editorial pieces to key influencers and other identified sites and blogs.

Qualifications:

Education and Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited university and majoring in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or Journalism
• Talented writer with ability to write succinct, intelligent, and polished pieces
• Ability to communicate with a high level of tact
• Must have exceptional traditional writing and grammatical skills and a flair for communicating in all social media channels.
• Working knowledge of and experience with online networks (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google, Tumblr, etc.)
• Obsessive attention to detail.
• Ability to multi-task and switch gears frequently and rapidly to capitalize on traffic opportunities.
• Advanced level skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and ability to learn other computer software programs
