Quantity: 20 positions available
Reports to: Internship Supervisor, Program Managers
Package: Housing, Transportation, $400 Living Allowance and Stipend ($500-$1500)
Application Deadline: March 1, 2013Description: Each year, Bayshore Christian Ministries brings together a diverse team of exceptional college students to serve in their summer programs. This creates life-changing experiences for everyone involved. Interns navigate the joys and challenges of serving youth with significant needs. Youth make tremendous strides in education and preparation for life. Parents are grateful for the impact they see in their children’s lives. Our internships are ideal for college students seeking experience in the areas of education, social work, youth ministry and urban ministry. Please see www.bayshore.org for more information.
As an intern you will:
1. Experience training as an academic instructor
2. Grow personally and spiritually
3. Participate in a multi-cultural team experience
4. Serve with a strong, well-established organization
5. Receive intensive training in urban ministry and issues of race and culture
6. Be an inspiring role model
7. Go on team retreats as well as outings to San Francisco, Santa Cruz and much moreJob duties:
1. Daily teach and manage a classroom of 3-6 urban elementary age students in reading, writing and math
2. Create daily lesson plans to meet the specific needs of students in reading, writing and math
3. Design, lead and implement daily special interest and sports workshops
4. Participate in student home visits
5. Help students prepare performances for end of the summer celebration
6. Attend weekly meetings with program supervisor at close of program
7. Attend weekly, evening Bible study and speaker sessions
8. Plan and implement weekly Chapel services for elementary age students
9. Perform other tasks related to student discipline, crossing guard duties, recess, and serving lunchesRequirements:
1. Have a strong desire to work with urban youth in an academic/teaching setting
2. Be spiritually, emotionally and socially mature
3. Work well as part of a larger team – a “team player”
4. Be prepared to be challenged on many levels
5. Have a strong desire to grow in your knowledge of God and your commitment and service to Him!

We serve East-of-Bayshore youth, or in other words, the children and teens who live in East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park, California. These communities have historically been marginalized from the rest of wealthy Silicon Valley. As a result, our youth and families struggle with poverty, under-performing schools, broken homes and gang violence.
WHAT
We invite our youth into relationships with Jesus Christ, the source of all hope. And regardless of race, religion, ability, or ethnic origin, we strive to help them grow into healthy adults that will positively influence their families and community.
HOW
We accomplish this mission through building relationships with youth and their families, supporting them with spiritual, academic, and leadership development. We strive to be Christ-centered, Relational, Holistic, Relevant, Multi-cultural, Service oriented, Creative, and Honoring God for the work He is doing.
WHY
In order to live out the hope that is offered through Christ, we must not only serve the spiritual needs of youth and their families, but we must also speak to their lives as whole people, following Christ’s example from his time on earth.
