Fundraising & Event Planning Intern (Summer 2014)

Reports to: Events & Corporate Sponsorships Manager

Purpose:
The Fundraising intern will work in cooperation with the Events and Corporate Sponsorships Manager to meet the development goals of the Colorado Mountain Club. The focus will be on assisting with event planning for the CMC’s fundraising events. Internship with also include administrative duties related to events and donor management, including data entry.

Critical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Help plan and prepare for the annual Youth Education Program Fundraiser: The Backyard Benefit on June 27th\
• Assist in the marketing efforts for other special events, including Ride the Rockies/Odell beer tent fundraiser, June 7th
• Provide marketing support for upcoming events, including calendar postings, posting flyers, sending emails.
• Provide administrative support for development activities associated with foundation, individual, and corporate fundraising
• Ensure proper and timely entry of contributions and in-kind gifts into the Raiser’s Edge system
• Create and distribute timely, accurate, and thoughtful gift-acknowledgement letters

Additional Duties May Include:
• Assist in the marketing efforts for special events
• Communicate with donors, corporations and foundations via email, postal mail and phone calls
• Assist in designing and implementing email campaigns and social media posts
• Solicit and track auction item donations and sponsorship
• Research foundation and corporate fundraising opportunities
• Material preparation and assembly
• Complete special projects as assigned

Hours & Compensation:
• The development intern works between 12-32 hours per week depending on desired hours; hours and schedule is very flexible. Starting and ending dates are also flexible.
• Preferred start date between May 5th and 16th, 2014 and end date is negotiable (preferred 3 month commitment)
• Occasional evening or weekend work may be requested for special events, including film festivals and fundraisers.
• This is an unpaid internship, offering the right candidate program credit and invaluable experience in fundraising, event planning and management, and donor communication using Raiser’s Edge.

The Colorado Mountain Club is organized to unite the energy, interest, and knowledge of the students, explorers, and lovers of the mountains of Colorado; collect and disseminate information regarding the Rocky Mountains on behalf of science, literature, art, and recreation; stimulate public interest in our mountain area; encourage the preservation of forests, flowers, fauna, and natural scenery; and render readily accessible the alpine attractions of this region.

Qualifications:

Education/Work Experience:
• Minimum of college level Junior classification; at least 1 year of previous work experience

Recommended Skills:
• Experience with PC Microsoft Windows and the software programs associated with Windows, particularly but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Database-entry skills, is a plus (not required)
