Job Descriptions
In this role, you will support the Urban Grapevine Team in all editorial areas, primarily in the production of our monthly magazine Urban Grapevine. With regards to the magazine, you will need to generate story ideas, from conducting research and interviews to writing articles as well as proofreading and copyediting of all content. Eaxch Article will require a podcast/video/You Tube. Cooperating with clients and external contributors relevant to the production of the magazine. Other duties will include marketing and sales. Actively tending to the needs of our readers, Lets Talk Urban events as well as supporting the team on other Lets Talk Urban projects are also required in this role. Article submissions must be 550 to 600 words, though there is room for longer features at Editor and Cheif and Senior Editors descretion.

Right now, we can only offer you the opportunity to work alongside a young, dynamic team in a challenging, urban environment with plenty of room for your own ideas and creativity. We can not offer a paid position at the moment but you will receive a % percentage of your advertising sales. A requirement that is mandatory. The quota is $100.00 a month; equivalent to (4) four Quarter page adds. You may also get to attend press parties and opening events for restaurants and clubs, and really get a view of the inner workings of the Urban scene and how media fits into it all.

Again, this position would be unpaid; however, writers would have a chance to have their work published online. Urban Grapevine provides writers with their own byline/author biography and press credentials. Currently the position is a work from home one; therefore, there is no need to worry about morning commute!

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

- Knowledge or expertise in the field you will be writing. (i.e. Bring Your A Game, sports writer should have some knowledge of all sport, quick wit, social personality, ad an ESPN fanatic.
- High School Diploma/GED or enrollment in a Higher Education Program
- English speaker
- Extremely detail-oriented
- Cultural sensitivity and eagerness to work in an urban environment
- Strong command of the written word.
- High interest in current affairs and urban living and urban issues
- Solid MS Office skills a must. (Experience with web design a plus)
- Spanish language skills an additional advantage
- Goal-oriented mindset with excellent communication and customer service skills
- Able to work with strict deadlines
- Responsible and reliable with the ability to work independently
- Access to a laptop/desktop computer with internet and wifi accessible.
- Cell phone and 1-800 google voice. (IT IS FREE)
- Web Camera (For Skype Meetngs)
- Video Recorder/Camera
- Transportation
- One weekend a month availability (uninterrupted 4hrs)
