An exciting opportunity to join a progressive campaign for New York City Council that is at the forefront of public policy, technology, and civic engagement. Following a close race in the Democratic Primaries, this is one of the few competitive general election races in New York City. This is not your average internship of copying, filing or field. You will join a team with experienced professionals where you will be able to participate in all aspects of a successful campaign and gain the necessary skills to secure a job. Interns are encouraged to pursue a project specific to their own interests.

The internship program with consist of weekly programs and trainings to improve interns’ understanding of New York City politics, how to run a successful campaign, and Ben Kallos’ platform. Weekly events will range from issue-based trainings to a visit to City Hall.

Background:
Benjamin Kallos is running to represent the Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island in the New York City Council where he is using unique skill sets in law, politics, public policy and technology to make New York City a better place.

He currently serves as the Executive Director of New Roosevelt where he is working to improve New York States Constitution and laws through better understanding and policies at EffectiveNY.org. His distinguished career includes serving Former Public Advocate Mark Green, Assembly Member Jonathan L. Bing, and the Open Government Foundation. He was recently recognized for his leadership by the New York Observer and City and State News for creating several civic websites including VoterSearch.org for voter education, OpenLegislation.org for legislative advocacy and transparency, and NYCPoliticalCalendar.com a crowd sourced political calendar.

Application Details:
This is an unpaid internship but interns are encouraged to secure academic credit or scholarships. We will assist in completing any necessary forms.

Applicants are required to work a minimum of 10 hours a week. Interns who work additional hours receive priority for more challenging tasks and individual projects.
