Founded in 1993, Women for Women International (WfWI) is dedicated to providing women survivors of war with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies. WfWI currently works in eight countries: Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan. During the last 18 years, WfWI has transformed the lives of more than 315,000 socially-excluded women and distributed over $100 million in direct aid and microcredit loans, benefiting more than 1.7 million family and community members in the process. In 2010, over 80,104 women in all eight countries received program services, with more than 46,363 sponsors from 88 countries across the world. WfWI has over 600 employees worldwide, and each of our country offices are fully staffed by women and men from the local community.Women for Women International’s Washington office seeks an Major Donor Research Strategy intern for a minimum of 8 weeks.
Project Description:
The Major Donor Research Strategy Intern will report directly to the Outreach and Development Director. This position support with the development major donor fund-raising strategies, including identifying and researching prospective donors; developing individual donor strategy with tailored approach of understanding major donor needs, interests and aspirations to better steward active donors and cultivate prospective donors; assisting with publications research, writing and editing.DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support with research to develop over 200 individual major donor strategies
2. Assist with researching and drafting of talking points for meetings and conferences
3. Support Institutional Advancement team with all aspects of major donor relations and gift stewardship
4. Coordinate and write major donor correspondence, including solicitation letters, steward reports, online appeals, donor trip briefings, and other communication
5. Manage donor acknowledgement process
6. Coordinate and send out follow-up materials following major donor visits conducted by major gift officers
7. Provide logistics support for donor trips, major donor visits, small events, dinners and receptions
8. Draft, edit and proofread concept papers, letters of inquiry, and proposals for major donor prospects
9. Liaise with marketing, grassroots, sponsorship, and global programs colleagues to coordinate joint efforts with Institutional Advancement
10. Maintain donor records in the fundraising database and facilitate data entry when appropriate
11. Conduct thank you calls and write thank you notes to major donors
12. Produce major gift analysis reports for major gift officers through the fundraising database
13. Respond to supporter requests for information via email, phone and mail.
14. Other duties as assigned.Compensation:
Internships available at Women for Women International (WfWi) are currently unpaid positions. Academic credit is available for this internship experience.
Qualifications:
1. Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
2. Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook Express
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills
4. Strong attention to detail
5. Ability to balance multiple deadlines and complete tasks assigned on short but reasonable notice
6. Ability to work independently
7. Interest in issues related to gender and development
8. A commitment to Women for Women International’s mission and vision
