Founded in 1993, Women for Women International (WfWI) is dedicated to providing women survivors of war with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies. WfWI currently works in eight countries: Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan. During the last 18 years, WfWI has transformed the lives of more than 315,000 socially-excluded women and distributed over $100 million in direct aid and microcredit loans, benefiting more than 1.7 million family and community members in the process. In 2010, over 80,104 women in all eight countries received program services, with more than 46,363 sponsors from 88 countries across the world. WfWI has over 600 employees worldwide, and each of our country offices are fully staffed by women and men from the local community.Women for Women International’s Washington office seeks an Development Prospect Research intern for a minimum of 8 weeks.
Project Description:
The Development Prospect Research Intern(s) will report directly to Sharise Harrison, Prospect Research Coordinator. This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students looking to obtain experience in fund-raising for women’s development programs, including how to identify and research prospective donors; to help steward major donor and major donor prospects; will assist with publications research, writing and editing. We have one full time or one part time, unpaid internship position available during the fall term. Academic credit is available for this internship experience.DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in researching prospect individual donors
2. Assisting in donor stewardship and communications
3. Assisting in major donor trip logistics & administration
4. Assisting in logistics for Women for Women International’s annual gala and other major donor events as needed
5. Assisting in mailing of donor acknowledgements and donor appeal mailings
6. Contributing to writing and editing of publications and other communication materials as needed
7. Liaise with marketing, grassroots, sponsorship, and global programs colleagues to coordinate joint efforts with Institutional Advancement
8. Maintain donor records in the database and facilitate data entry when appropriate
9. Database maintenance and preparation of prospect donor folders and informational materials
10. Administrative duties, e.g., updating donor database records, filing and other etc.Compensation:
Internships available at Women for Women International (WfWi) are currently unpaid positions. Academic credit is available for this internship experience.
Qualifications:
1. Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
2. Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook Express
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills
4. Strong attention to detail
5. Ability to balance multiple deadlines and complete tasks assigned on short but reasonable notice; problem-solve and prioritize among assignments
6. Ability to work independently
7. Interest in issues related to gender and development
8. A commitment to Women for Women International’s mission and vision
