Conference Program Intern
Description:
The Global Health Council is seeking several interns to provide administrative and programmatic support to department staff. The intern will become familiar with international conference event planning, conference program research and development, publications preparations and/or membership servicing by working closely with Council staff on some or all of these activities, as designated by staff. The intern may have the opportunity to interact directly with conference presenters, volunteers, and attendees from more than 85 countries, and to meet leaders in international public health at the Annual Conference.
Responsibilities:Student and New Professional Programming
o Find new ways to promote greater attendance/participation by students and young professionals.
o Assist with New Investigators in Global Health Program logistics, preparation and onsite management.Abstract Review
o Assist in processing abstract submissions.
o Assist in organizing and leading activities at committee meetings.
o Communicate application status to applicants.Conference Program Development
o Assist in the planning and implementation of other special events.
o Perform first-pass copyediting of abstracts.Awards
o Manage communication with final candidates to ensure complete applications.
o Enter nominations for the Gates, Jonathan Mann, Best Practices and Media Awards into database and follow up with candidates as necessary.Research and Investigation
o Search for new and cost-effective avenues of marketing the annual conference to member organizations and other targeted stakeholders, as well as exploring how to market to developing countries using social media.General Conference Activities
o Work with the Helping Handz Volunteer Conference Program Coordinator with the coordination and implementation of the program before, during, and after the conference.
o Assist with pre-conference preparations, including assembly of registration packets, conference signage, onsite supplies, conference evaluation preparation using online survey tool, letters of invitation, and responding to inquiries in the conference inbox.
o Assist with daily tasks including answering e-mail and telephone inquiries, and completing small research projects.
o Compile statistical reports post-conference for marketing and internal and external reporting.
Qualifications:
The Conference Program Intern at the Global Health Council should possess the following skills/aptitudes:• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, the Internet, and database systems.
• Flexibility to assume a workload that frequently necessitates an adjustment of priorities.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently with excellent time management and reporting skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with diverse staff, members, and conference presenters, volunteers and attendees.
• Solid organizational, oral, and written communication skills
• Excellent attention to details
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
• Experience with event planning a plusAdditionally, interns:
• must be able to provide proof of one of the following:
US Citizenship; OR a current F-1 Visa; OR current “J” exchange visitor status
• must be fluent in English, as it is the main working and reporting language of the Council. Knowledge of other languages may prove to be quite useful.
• must be computer literate
• should possess a combination of relevant work and/or academic experience and knowledge of the activities/subject matter covered by the Council

Salary: Currently, GHC provides academic credit only for all of our internship positions. Please note that it will be the responsibility of the hired intern to obtain from his/her college or university, any and all paperwork and/or evaluation forms to be submitted, as well as manage his/her university requirements.Tags:ALL documents must be received in order to be considered for the selection process.
