Sierra Club’s Beyond Oil Campaign Internship Program:
Job Title: Intern – Beyond Oil Campaign, Washington, DC
Department: Conservation/ Beyond Oil Campaign
Term: Interns are accepted on a rolling basis
Hours: Minimum 20 hours per week; full time preferred
Americans consume 25 percent of the worlds produced oil, yet our nation has less than 3 percent of the world’s proven oil reserves. If left unchecked our appetite for oil will continue to grow, and the costs of this dangerous addiction are high. Every year we send billions of dollars overseas, much of it to hostile regimes that do not share Americas values. Our addiction to oil puts the entire nation at risk, and leaves our economy vulnerable to price shocks. Oil is a leading source of smog, particulate matter, and other toxic pollution that contributes to tens of thousands of deaths each year. Our addiction is also the cause of oil spills in our rivers and oceans, poisoning our drinking water sources, polluting our communities and destroying fragile ecosystems.
Its time to break Big Oils stranglehold on our nation. The Sierra Clubs Beyond Oil campaign aims to cut Americas addiction to oil by stopping destructive and dirty fossil fuels and promoting real solutions such as smart transportation systems, clean cars, and clean, renewable energy that wont run out. The Beyond Oil intern will assist the campaign’s team members to move our nation beyond oil-based fuels.
Job Activities/Scope: Interns will provide support to all aspects of the Beyond Oil Campaign, including its three sub-campaigns: dirty fuels, green transportation, and green fleets & electric vehicles. Past job activities have included conducting research and writing, assisting in outreach efforts, organizing program activities and events, preparing educational materials, providing administrative support, and contributing to program blogs and social media.
