Intern, Don’t Cut Our Lifeline

The Arc is offering an internship that provides an entrée into disability rights, grassroots advocacy, and nonprofit governance/management. This intern will work with chapters and advocates to collect stories for the Don’t Cut Our Lifeline campaign and other organizational advocacy & communications needs. The information and stories will be critical to our communications efforts for this campaign at the federal and state levels.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
•Work with communications staff to promote story bank and collection targeting
•Phone & email contact with advocates, including family members and people with disabilities, to screen stories
•Support policy staff needs for targeted advocate stories
•Coordinate with chapter support staff to develop state-level toolkit for chapter use of storybank
•Manage data tracking of stories, including categorization and listing by story type, location, “fit” for advocacy efforts/needs
•Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions


Qualifications:

•Prefer junior or senior, but will consider other class levels
•An interest in disability studies, grassroots advocacy or communications
•Excellent oral, written, and communication/presentation skills
•Comfortable talking with and interacting with others via phone, email and face-to-face
•Proficiency in excel and other Microsoft programs; database management a plus

Paid Internship Info:

Travel stipend up to $1000 for semester

Hours:

Approximately 10 hours per week
