Intern, Promoting Implementation of the Affordable Care Act

Description:

The Arc is offering an internship that provides an entrée into disability rights, state/federal legislative health policy and grassroots advocacy. This intern will work to research and develop a tool for use by state legislators to implement important provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The companion portions of this project will include materials for advocates to work with their legislators to promote full implementation through state legislative actions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
•Work with Chapter Organizing & Advocacy staff to develop project timeline and desired implementation objectives
•Develop database/tracking mechanism for each state’s participation in and inclinations toward implementation of each ACA provision
•Work with state chapter policy staff to develop advocate-friendly materials
•Coordinate with communications & marketing staff to develop press and marketing materials for finished project
•Collaborate with federal policy staff to ensure consistency of message with The Arc’s federal Don’t Cut Our Lifeline and other legislative messaging
•Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions

Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
•Prefer junior or senior, but will consider other class levels
•An interest in disability studies, state/federal policy, or grassroots advocacy
•Excellent oral, written, and communication/presentation skills
•Comfortable talking with and interacting with others via phone, email and face-to-face
•Proficiency in Microsoft programs

Paid Internship Info:

Travel stipend up to $1000 for semester

Hours:

Approximately 10 hours per week
