Description:

YSA – the global organization that improves communities by increasing the number and the diversity of young people serving in substantive roles – is seeking a Development Intern who will work with the Director of Development & Innovation to complete a variety of development research projects and assist with writing drafts of proposals for corporate, foundation, and government funding as well as to implement YSA’s annual fundraising campaign. Major tasks will include:
• Compile and update mailing lists, including analysis/segmentation of existing lists.
• Assist with printing, compiling/stuffing, and mailing of printed materials.
• Process and track all donations received, including sending, thank yous.
• Research and identify family foundations to receive annual fund letters.
• Conduct web-based and other research and follow-up to identify prospective funders.
• Adapt existing programmatic and organizational language to write first drafts of proposals.
• Complete other research projects to identify effective fundraising practices of other organizations and support YSA’s development plan.
• Provide general administrative support to the Development Team.

Full-time or part-time internship positions are available. Applicants may be graduate or undergraduate students and should be able to commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week. This internship position is unpaid.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will have:
• Strong research skills, especially the ability to review and process large amounts of information and intuitive skills to decide what information is relevant or irrelevant.
• Strong business writing and proofreading skills.
• Excellent organizational abilities and incredible attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, word processing (including mail merging) and familiarity with Salesforce or similar database / CRM.
• Some fundraising or philanthropy experience (preferred).
• Interest in youth development and/or youth engagement (preferred)
