Company/Organization: Western Organization of Resource Councils

Description:

The Western Organization of Resource Councils (WORC) is seeking two interns to work in its Billings, Montana office. WORC is a network of eight grassroots organizations in seven states with 12,200 members and 39 local community groups. WORC helps its member groups succeed by providing training and by coordinating regional issue campaigns. Our members are farmers, ranchers, small business and working people who seek to protect the environment, family farms, and rural communities. WORC provides research and community organizing assistance to its member groups to increase their effectiveness on regional and national public policy decisions affecting their members. For more information about WORC, see our web site at www.worc.org.

The internships will provide an excellent opportunity to be involved in federal, state and local public policy decisions within the context of a rural, community based organization, and to learn about community organizing, advocacy, and research. Our current priorities are our Campaign for Clean Energy and Responsible Development, which works to reduce the impacts of oil and gas, coal, and uranium development on public and private land, air, and water, and promotes the sustainable production and use of renewable energy; and our Farm to Market Sustainability Project, which seeks safe food policies and economic justice in agricultural markets, promotes local food policies, and opposes animal factories.

The internships will support WORCs program activities. Responsibilities of the Billings interns will include researching and writing on our priority issue areas, writing and editing fact sheets and action alerts, and assisting with other publications and tasks.

Qualifications:

Strong writing, research and communications skills; a commitment to family farm agriculture, environmental protection and grassroots organizing; and a familiarity with Windows computers and software are required. Candidates must possess excellent organizational skills and enjoy striving to achieve high standards in a hardworking, small office environment. WORC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
