Legislative Intern/Volunteer
Description:
Our office is seeking talented and dedicated volunteers and interns to support our District office in West Palm Beach, FL. The 2013 Legislative Session will be held between March 5 - May 3, 2013. During this time, the Representative will be in Tallahassee along with his Chief Legislative Aide. Interns and Volunteers are needed to assist the District Legislative Aide, who will remain in the District office during most of Session.Some examples of tasks that may be delegated to the right candidates (we are seeking at least 2-4 candidates) are:
* Bill research
* Responding to legislative questions posed by constituents via written letters
* Attending community events
* Assisting in planning a Town Hall meeting
* Various administrative tasksNOTE: Candidates will NEVER be asked to do mundane tasks such as filing piles of papers, removing paperclips, making coffee, etc. All volunteers and interns are provided with an opportunity to gain meaningful and valuable skills that are beneficial when seeking future job opportunities.
While we would like to be able to pay our interns, we are unfortunately unable to. However, the skills and community connections gained will prove to be highly valuable.
Qualifications:
You need not be a current student to intern and anyone aged 18+ may inquire to be a volunteer. The following are requirements to apply for an internship (volunteers need not fulfill these requirements):* Must be able to dedicate at least 15 hours per week
* Must be able to commit to work with us for at least four months (the length of one semester)
* Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Have a laptop
* Know how to use basic office equipment such as printers, copy machines, fax machines, scanners, etc.
