FoodWaves is a non-profit bringing social, agricultural, and environmental change to the global table. In 4 years of operation our partner farm, Converging Creeks Farm (Colton), has developed a reputation for high quality organic produce and excellent customer service while providing unique training and volunteer opportunities for community members. Recognizing the need to provide financial and technical support to the next generation of organic farmers, we have created a seasonal apprenticeship position. The successful applicant(s) will be trained in all aspects of how to operate a small production farm.Responsibilities Our apprentice(s) will:
o Work part-time or full-time with a lead farmer that will supervise all aspects of sustainable agriculture (i.e. seed propagation, soil preparation, transplanting, etc.)
o Support a small non-profit by increasing field size, greenhouse production, harvest size, and sales of farm output
o Develop and nurture sales relationships with customers and partner organizations
o Promote the educational component of the farm by working with community members (i.e. host regular volunteers, educate farm visitors, etc.)
o Work with goats, turkeys, pigs, and chickens
The stipend for this position will be determined considering your availability and experience. You may have the opportunity to live on-site with access to a kitchen and bathroom; eat farm produce; share meals; earn extra money from working farmer’s markets; and trade produce.
Qualifications:
A successful applicant will have the following:
o Desire to own and/or manage a small acreage, organic farm in the near future
o Knowledge of organic farming practices and methods
o Ability to work well with a team, excellent communication and organizational skills, resourceful, self-motivated, and hard-working
o Access to transportation (Arrive on time for work on farm)
