Description:
Are you a recent or upcoming college graduate looking for an internship?Would you like to build your resume by adding valuable and much sought after skills?
Are you a retiree with a ton of time and experience who would love to help your community?
Do you have a heart for causes where the victims have no voice?
Do you like working with grassroots organizations?
Do you believe in the power of family and strong male role models?
Do you hate injustice?
Then you are in the right place!
We are a non profit organization called, The Charge, Inc. and we partner with male victims of domestic violence to help them rebuild their lives. One of the greatest challenges of this type of work is simply getting people to believe that this is a REAL and GROWING problem. Here are some statistics:
A woman is attacked by her abuser every 15 secs... A man is attacked EVERY 14.5 secs. Globally, over 400,000 men a year are abused by their female partner.
24% of men who are attacked by their female partners are KILLED every year (thats 100,000 men!) and its not even making a blip on the radar.
Female abusers are THREE times more likely to use a weapon when attacking their victims. (Stab, Shoot, Run over with a car, Set on fire)
VAWA (the Violence Against Women Act) provides millions of dollars to help female victims. Theres no condition within the act for male victims. The language used in the act EXCLUSIVELY refers to female as victim and male as abuser. This is gender biased and keeps funding away from male victims who need it
There are NO shelters or adequate resources for male victims in the ENTIRE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. There are THOUSANDS for women.
90% of the time, when the police are called out to a home for domestic violence issues the MAN is arrested or asked to leave the home...REGARDLESS of who the aggressor is.
So, as you can see...we are greatly needed.
The Charge, Inc. has six objectives:
C - Changing Legislation
H - Honoring our mens rights
A - Advocating on their behalf
R - Raising awareness on a global level
G - Giving survivors a voice
