The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) is seeking a creative and motivated individual to intern in its Research, Evaluation, and Data Services Department. This is an excellent opportunity to build a client-based portfolio and gain practical experience while working at an active, upbeat non-profit organization.The Research & Evaluation Intern will directly assist the Research, Evaluation, and Data Services team with a wide range of projects related to homelessness, permanent supportive housing initiatives, HIV healthcare access and utilization, and health services research. During his/her tenure, the Research & Evaluation Intern will also have the opportunity to learn about HIV/AIDS prevention, care and advocacy. This person will work closely with the Research & Evaluation Manager.
This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that community-based research and evaluation can play in a non-profit setting, and be better prepared to work in the arena of HIV/AIDS and program evaluation. The candidate will also have opportunities to network with staff from other departments at AFC as well as the broader community.
The Research & Evaluation Intern will learn to:
• Design, execute and evaluate community-based research and evaluation projects, including surveys, focus groups, site visits, data integration and analysis;
• Work closely with community-based organizations to monitor data collection and reporting;
• Administer individual or group interviews, conduct observations and collect data from archival records;
• Assist in the production of written, tabular and visual materials for research reports and presentations of system level monitoring and evaluation findings to multiple stakeholder audiences.Qualifications:
• Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in program evaluation;
• Completed coursework in survey design, quantitative and/or qualitative research methods, and introductory statistics;
• Prior exposure to SPSS.This internship is unpaid (stipend available), however, AFC can help interns obtain college credit for their work, where available. The intern will receive necessary training and staff supervision. We require a minimum of 15 hours/week for a minimum of 8 weeks, though longer internships are preferred. Health Sciences and Social Sciences majors are encouraged to apply.
