Internship Title: Human Resources Internship
Internship Department: Human ResourcesObjective: Develop skills and experience/exposure to the following areas of
human resources:• Recruiting and Onboarding
• Staff training for HRIS systems
• Benefit Administration and Design (Specifically Wellness Initiatives and Medical Plans)
• Job Description analysis/developmentResponsibilities: This intern will assist the VP and Director of HR in the above mentioned core areas of Human Resources. Specifically, the intern may assist with developing interview questions, conducting phone screens, observing and participating in the onboarding process, participating in staff training for new employee HRIS self service tool, learn about benefit design and selection processes for business partners, assist director facilitate a wellness team which will guide wellness program enhancements.
Final Product(s): New hires for Shedd- which the intern has assisted in selecting, the development of the Shedd Wellness “look”/Brand and come corresponding wellness activities, experience/exposure to an RFP process for new partnerships, Job Description design/analysis exposure.
Learning Potential: Exposure to a variety of Human Resources related issues as it relates to a non-for-profit institution with a focus on zoos and aquariums. Ability to manage, organize and communicate various aspects of our structured internship program throughout the organization.

Qualifications:
Qualifications: A desirable candidate must be outgoing, work well with teams and independently, be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, think creatively and effectively manage his or her time. Previous internship or job experience in Human Resources helpful, but not required. Good verbal and written communication skills is a must. Must maintain confidentiality. Proficient with Microsoft Office. A strong desire to learn about Human Resources in a non-for-profit settingMinimum GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Desired Year in School: Junior, Senior or Grad student preferred
Compensation: Unpaid. Interns must make arrangements with their schools to gain academic credit for this internship. Shedd Aquarium is happy to provide any work documentation necessary for this process.
Desired Majors: Undergraduate or Graduate study in Business with an emphasis in Human Resources. Communications, Organizational development or something similar.Time Commitment: 15 to 20 hours per week; Schedule is flexible based on availability. For training purposes, Wednesday availability is preferred.
