SUMMARY
CAWC is seeking an undergraduate (junior or senior), college graduate, or graduate student to serve as the organization’s special events intern. Under the direction of the Development Director, the individual in this key role will help promote CAWC’S signature fundraising event, Sounds of Silence (SOS), by creating content for various communications channels. The intern will participate in a variety of activities as noted below and will gain exposure into event management at a nonprofit organization. CAWC engages an event planning firm to coordinate the event and the intern would have direct interaction with the event planning team. . This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is interested in a career in special events at a nonprofit, wants extensive hands-on experience to support our event marketing, and has a commitment to our mission of ending domestic violence.

This unpaid internship requires a commitment from September 2018 through April 2019 – 8 to 10 hours/week with some flexibility as we get closer to the event, which is in March. Most of the intern’s time will be spent at our administrative offices located in Humboldt Park – accessible by public transportation from most Chicago neighborhoods - and some project work can be done remotely.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The special events intern will -

• Help implement a multi-channel event marketing plan
• Create and manage CAWC’s website and social media content as related to the event
• Procure items for silent and live auctions
• Identify and create new event communication strategies
• Develop an updated media list
• Create and email event press releases and follow up with media contacts
• Generate event reports
• Attend committee meetings, as requested

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate (junior or senior), college graduate, or graduate student pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, event management, nonprofit management, or similar area of study
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong writing skills
• Must have experience in working on website content and social media
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to organize and multi-task
• Commitment to CAWC’s mission and social change in the area of violence against women
• Capacity to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (required) and Adobe Creative Suite or other design program (preferred)
• Capable of working independently, as well as with a team
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a good sense of humor
