Description:

Duties: Will be responsible for planning, analyzing, developing, implementing, maintaining, and enhancing information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data. Specifically, will implement higher-level security requirements; integrate security programs across disciplines; define security plans and policies; assess new system design methodologies to improve software quality; and institute measures to ensure awareness and compliance. Will also assess new security technologies and/or threats and recommend changes; review and evaluate security incident response policies; and develop long-range plans for IT security systems. In addition, you will resolve integration issues related to the implementation of new systems with the existing infrastructure. Qualification and Experience Qualifications: At the GS-9 level: Must possess one year of specialized experience that equipped candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level. Examples include installing, configuring, initializing, and maintaining firewalls that protect a network from intrusions, threats, and compromises; configuring firewall logs, applying risk factors associated with maintaining IT security, such as computer viruses, hackers, and denials or service. At the GS-11 level: Must possess one year of specialized experience that equipped candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level. Examples include installing, implementing, and maintaining firewall services that prevent unauthorized access to an organizations Web site; recommending modifications to existing firewall hardware and software based on analysis of incident reports; troubleshooting security threats and vulnerabilities. At level GS-12: Must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped candidate with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level. Examples include monitoring and evaluating IT systems compliance with security requirements; implementing and coordinating activities to ensure, protect, and restore IT systems, services, and capabilities; and providing advice and guidance to end users on implementing IT security procedures. Other requirements: Skill in applying infomation systems security principles and methods. Knowledge of network operations and protocols. Ability to apply analytical reasoning and methods. Knowledge of IT security products and services. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to high level management within your company/agency and outside through the use of technical reports and/or presentations. Education: GS-9: May substitute a Masters degree or 2 full years of graduate education in a qualifying field or a J.D. or L.L.B. degree for experience required at the GS-9 grade level. (A course of study in computer science, information science, statistics, and related fields is qualifying.) Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. At level GS-11: May substitute a doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a qualifying field for experience at the GS-11 grade level. (A course in computer science, information science, information systems management, or related fields is qualifying.) Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
