Youth Wellness Coach
Description:
The YMCA of Greater Boston is actively looking for interns to serve as Youth Wellness Coaches in some of its after-school programs. Youth Wellness Coaches will work in conjunction with site directors and staff of the after school programs to make sure that every child receive moderate to vigorous physical activity everyday, education on the benefits of nutrition and healthy snacks. This is a position for someone who enjoys working with children and cares about their fitness and health.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications/skills:
- Be majoring in nutrition, physical education, recreation, or a sports or health related field
- Be reliable and available to commit to a semester of working with a program (program hours are 2:30pm to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday)
- Be upbeat and fun
- Be comfortable working with kids ranging in age form 5 to 14years old
- Want to be an integral part of the program and care about the children
Potential Tasks:
- Spending time with each age groups observing, planning, and leading activities.
-Curriculum planning for physical activities, snacks, and nutrition education.
- Planning and running a family based educational event
- Learning how to direct a school age program
(The potentials are endless!)Opportunities for internships are available in West Roxbury, Reading, Roxbury, the Wang YMCA of Chinatown, and Hyde Park. Internships hours per week may range form 6 to 30 hours a week.
