Communications, Development Department Intern

STATUS:
Unpaid Intern, Full-Time. Lodging and meals provided free during internship. (40 hours per week – 10 consecutive week commitment is required) Paid staff position may be available following successful internship completion.

REPORTS TO:
Communications Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
This internship will assist with the communications and fundraising efforts of Project Vote Smart. Position ideal for recent graduates with an interest and academic background in the areas of public relations, marketing, mass communications, english, journalism, and/or nonprofit management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assisting the Communications Coordinator and Development Director as needed
* Point person for the organizations CRM Media Contact Database and maintaining press clips
* Writing and editing external/internal communications (Blog entries, News Releases, E-newsletter articles)
* Making pitch calls to members of media
* Providing content for social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
* Researching and implementing new outreach campaigns such as our Millennial Membership Campaign and conjuring support for the organizations Political Courage Test.
* Assisting with photography, videography, and graphic design as needed

SKILLS DESIRED:
* An open mind and willingness to learn (acceptable in lieu of experience)
* Ability to learn programs and processes quickly
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
* Basic understanding of organizational structure of print & radio media
* Understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn as it relates to non-profit outreach
* Those with photography, graphic design, HTML, and videography experience encouraged to apply
* A sincere interest in American politics

Qualifications:

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be able to set aside political beliefs and be objective and non-partisan while working.
2. Must be in good standing with your university/school, as current student or alum.
3. Must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 consecutive weeks.
4. Lastly, please remember that our research facility is located in an extraordinarily beautiful but remote area. You will be expected to maintain the facility.
