The 12-week fitness internship at the Duke University Diet & Fitness Center (DFC) provides undergraduate/graduate students with a well-rounded educational and practical experience at one of the world’s only multi-disciplinary lifestyle enhancement and residential obesity treatment programs. The DFC program is multidimensional including components of Fitness, Nutrition, Health Psychology, Medical, and Lifestyle Coaching. Interns will have the unique opportunity to experience the DFC in its entirety while primarily focusing on the Fitness component. The DFC is affiliated with Duke Medical Center, the southeast’s leading medical center.
Opportunities include, but are not limited to, exercise prescription and monitoring, exercise heart rate and blood pressure monitoring, group exercise instruction, developing educational brochures for clients, client evening activity organization and implementation, and a special project. Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to observe fitness assessments, educational lectures, surgical procedure(s), assist in body composition assessments, assist in the DFC research efforts, complete case studies on the DFC clientele, and complete article reviews on relevant fitness topics. Meals are provided, but otherwise this is an unpaid internship.
