About Little Kids Rock:
Little Kids Rock is a non-profit organization that has grown to become one of the leading free instrumental music education providers to the U.S. public schools, serving districts with high concentrations of low-income students. Since its founding in 2002, Little Kids Rock has brought modern rock music instruction programs and instruments to more than 200,000 underserved public school kids across the U.S. It currently operates programs in twelve states, reaching more than 90,000 elementary, middle and high school students per year, providing a modern-band curriculum, teacher training, and instruments.

Internship Description:
Do you have rock and roll in your soul? Little Kids Rock is seeking an intern who will be learn to make the organization more visible by getting hands-on experience in area of external communications, marketing and public relations. You will assist the Communications Officer in helping tell Little Kids Rock’s story through social media, creative writing, public relations, website, and database archival.

Responsibilities:
Working with direction from the Communications Officer and management team, the Communications and Marketing Intern will be tasked with administrative and non-administrative activities including writing content for blogs, email blasts and newsletters, interviewing teachers and students for content, posting on Little Kids Rock social media sites, editing, writing press releases, calling media outlets, making minor html web edits, archiving press into database, researching and entering new contacts into database, tagging youtube videos, blog posts, etc.

Qualifications:
The right match for this position will be ready to rock at a moment’s notice. We’re looking for a highly motivated, self-starter with strong organizational skills in addition to written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate will be able to handle several projects simultaneously, follow directions and also be entrepreneurial in finding solutions. A fun and professional phone manner and good interpersonal skills are also important. The ideal candidate will feel comfortable writing creative stories and press releases, and has some experience in some or all of the following: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, HTML and Wordpress, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel.

Schedule:
Up to three days per week for a period of three to five months is preferred. Exact days and times will be established in harmony with the intern’s schedule.

Compensation:
This is a volunteer opportunity with provided travel reimbursement to defray travel expenses. Credit is also available.
