Seedco Financial is a subsidiary of Seedco, a national community development intermediary that creates opportunities for low- wage workers and their families in economically distressed areas.Brief Project Description:
Seedco Financial is looking for a creative, bright, and energetic intern for Summer 2010 for its technical assistance program: ArtBusiness Initiative & Small Business Loan Fund. The intern will have the opportunity to work directly with our technical assistance coordinator, as well as gain exposure to the arts and small business community. In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to attend public events and meetings with key partners, attend counseling screenings with potential or current clients, and research the industry & its role in economic development. The intern will be able to learn skills on the areas of: event planning, public presentation, negotiations, one to one coaching in business and marketing planning, and financial management.
Specific activities and responsibilities:
I. Develop and design marketing tools
II. Assist to coordinate and attend events in NYC for arts and small businesses (panels, workshops, and fairs)
a) Design flyers
b) Coordinate logistics with other partners
c) Assist other collaborators
d) Coordinate RSVP
e) Answer phone/email questions related to events
III. Coordinate Face book for ArtBusiness Initiative
IV. Support Technical Assistance (TA) general operations:
a) Update TA tracker
b) Coordinate with other technical assistance provider’s collaborators to receive TA updates in a weekly or bi-weekly manner
V. Other activities related to marketing, outreach, and “one to one technical assistance” for our ArtBusiness Initiative and Small Business Loan Fund.
VI. Involves some traveling within NYC (travel to events and off-site meetings with partners)Qualifications for Intern:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree;
- Interested and familiar with NYC arts (performing, visual, graphic design, fashion design etc.) and small businesses in: Harlem, Lower East Side, South Bronx, Jamaica, Bed-Stuy;
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Possess online and traditional research skills;
- Excellent presentation and communications skills (in person, phone and email);
- Friendly and positive demeanor;
- Comfortable participating at events in some evenings (after business hours); and
- Familiar and comfortable with facebook, twitter, meetup.com and similar social media applications.
Intern Hours:
20 hours/week (min) for 12 – 15 weeks in June - August. The internship is unpaid. Intern may also obtain school credit.For more internship opportunities, please visit www.seedcofinancial.org .
