Free Arts NYC is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing under-served children and families with a unique combination of educational arts and mentoring programs that help them to foster the self-confidence and resiliency needed to realize their fullest potential. With the help of dedicated and caring volunteer mentors, Free Arts NYC delivers creative arts programs directly to low income, homeless, abused and neglected children.We partner with group homes, shelters, schools and community centers to give children the opportunity to express themselves in a supportive environment in order to develop communication and trust. Our programs and the relationships they foster help children and families experience new levels of hope and creativity.
About the Internship:
Free Arts NYC invites undergraduate and graduate students as Events Internship candidates. Events Interns will learn about and assist with all aspects of fundraising through special events: research, marketing, event planning and production, publicity, outreach, donor recognition, etc. Free Arts NYC raises over $1 million through a variety of avenues that include marathons, bike-a-thons, art auctions, family art day, store openings, cocktail parties, membership, Facebook campaigns, and more.
Responsibilities include:
• Create/send/track requests to artists, sponsors, publicists for various events
• Research potential sponsors and partners
• Participate in the organization of the Half-Marathon, Bike Tour and Marathon Teams involving donation tracking and filing, thanking donors and sending weekly team updates
• Prepare/Manage mailing lists for fundraising campaigns and events
• Perform systematic database updates and track vendor/sponsor/donor contacts
• Work with the Marketing team to update social networking sites with events info
• Compile feedback and statistics from programs for use in fundraising campaigns
• Create/Manage a system for photo management and archiving program and event related imagery
• Compile online and in book press/publicity coverage and update press kits
• Update/maintain press and media lists
• Research additional event partners and keep up-to-date on other NYC based charity events and campaigns
• Research magazines, newspapers and online sites regarding charity stories, listings, partnerships, etc.
Qualifications:
Events Internships are ideally suited to candidates with an interest in non-profit fundraising, development, events and/or marketing work. No fundraising experience is necessary, but knowledge of non-profits is a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills, experience with online databases, internet-based research and strong organizational skills are necessary qualifications for placement. Minimum of 2 days a week required with opportunity for more.
