The Alzheimers Association Walk to End Alzheimer’sTM is the nations largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. The Walk in New York city raises $1million annually and, since 1989, the Walk has raised more than $300 million for the cause. The Alzheimer’s Association also started a new initiative a couple of years ago, currently rebranded this year to be called Athletes to End Alzheimer’s, which consist of athletic events such as swimming, biking, running, and triathlons to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s.Timeframe: March – June 2012
Scope of Position
The Constituent Events Intern’s job functions as the part-time assistant to the Constituent Events Associate. This position is to start at the beginning of January and ends in May. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Requirements
- Work on our Athletes to End Alzheimer’s events. Assist with managing the following events:
Five Borough Bike Tour (May)
New York City Triathlon (July)
US Ironman Championships (August)- Work on cultivating fundraising ideas and participants for all the events to meet their fundraising commitments
- Assist in day-to-day administration of meetings, events, printing of materials, give-aways, etc
- Raise money for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s through:
Maintaining and cultivating existing sponsors
Soliciting new sponsorships- Work on marketing communications and printing for the Walk such as Save the Dates, Brochures, T-Shirts
- Assist with marketing strategy sessions
- Work with webmaster to ensure the most up-to-date information is communicated and relayed accurately and timely
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in Event Planning and Communications preferred- Athletic background preferred (knowledge of triathlons and cycling events a huge plus)
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Sound interpersonal and organizational skills are essential
- Self-motivated with ability to drive results with a sense of urgency
- Forward, creative thinker
- Possess a positive and calm demeanor in addition to excellent problem solving skills
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to collaborate across the organization and outside as well as influence a wide range constituents
- Promote a culture of teamwork, creativity, passion and fun
