POSITION TITLE: Online Recruitment & Community Outreach Training Intern
Part-time Fall 2012 internship starting in September and schedule TBD.

AGENCY DESCRIPTION
The Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) - New York City’s independent police oversight agency is empowered to receive, investigate, make findings and recommend action on complaints against New York City police officers that allege the use of excessive force, abuse of authority, discourtesy or offensive language. The Board’s investigations are conducted in an impartial fashion by the Board’s investigative staff, which is composed entirely of civilian employees. The CCRB receives and investigates approximately 7,500 complaints each year. Additional information concerning the CCRB is available at www.nyc.gov/ccrb.

UNIT DESCRIPTION
The CCRB is required by the New York City Charter to educate the public about its mission and duties and issue two reports each year describing its activities. The Community Outreach Unit fulfills this mandate by conducting outreach meetings with members of the public, developing and producing the agency’s brochures and reports, applying for funding to develop projects supporting the mission of the agency, and partnering with other organizations to foster positive community-police relations.

INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
The Recruitment and Training Intern will assist the Director of Community Relations and Training with:
• Internal training focused on Community Outreach initiatives
• Researching local universities career centers for background information
• Job posting and monitoring internship and full-time positions
• Screening candidate resumes
• Interviewing job candidates based on structured interview format
• Researching hiring and employee maintaining methods
• Entering contact information into an Excel spreadsheet
• Opportunity to engage in a variety of other Community Outreach Unit related tasks.

The intern will benefit by the exposure to staffing, recruitment, and training procedures, the opportunity to utilize computer skills, enhancing research skills by investigating human resources, organizational methodologies, and other recruiting and training-related topics.


SALARY RANGE
Due to budgetary constraints, these internships are unpaid. Academic credit available and/ or for experience. CCRB is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications:


QUALIFICATIONS/ SPECIAL SKILLS/AREAS OF STUDY
Candidates should be interested in a career in Human Resources or a related field, enrolled in a college or university, with excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and computer skills.
