Fundraising Intern

Urban Word NYC is currently seeking a undergrad/grad student with experience and an interest in development and communications to assist with the following responsibilities:• Assist in the writing, editing, and production of fundraising materials such as grant proposals, appeal letters, and reports
• Assist in donation tracking and prospect research
• Writing acknowledgment letters and other correspondence
• Some administrative tasks related to the Urban Word NYCs workInterns will be trained on fundraising, event planning, prospect research, and information tracking skills and gain knowledge of the organizations mission and youth development priorities. In order to provide a valuable and well-rounded internship experience, interns will have the opportunity to attend selected meetings and briefings with development staff and take advantage of the professional development opportunities that may arise as a result.
This internship is unpaid. Students are often able to arrange academic credit, as Urban Word NYC internships will offer direct exposure to the workings of a youth development organization, close supervision by the Urban Word Development staff, interaction with other youth/arts organizations, government officials, and opportunities to attend, trainings and special events relating to the field. Students should check with their individual academic institutions for requirements.
Educational/Skill-building goals of this internship include:
• Basic understanding of how a nonprofit youth program is funded, created and produced;
• Donor database management experience;
• Creating effective outreach campaigns and events;
• Grant writing skills for fundraising and outreach materials;
• Volunteer recruitment, management and supervision.
Qualifications:
Applicants should be exceptionally well-organized, self-motivated and reliable, with a strong interest in youth development and arts in educations. Ability to work as part of a team and research skills are highly desired. An excellent written and oral communication skill in English is required. Ideally, interns should be available at least two days a week for a period of three to six months.
