Graphic Design InternControl Arms is a global civil society alliance campaigning for a “bulletproof” Arms Trade Treaty that will protect lives and livelihoods. A “bulletproof” Arms Trade Treaty means an international legally-binding agreement that will stop transfers of arms and ammunitions that fuel conflict, poverty and serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.
This winter, the Final Diplomatic Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty will be held from March 18-29 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, NY. Ideally, the Graphic Design Intern will be available 3-4 days a week from January through March, including March 17, 24 and 30.
This internship is ideal for advanced students who have significant design experience and want the opportunity to develop their own designs to build their portfolio. Their finished products will be circulated on all Control Arms social media platforms and shared across the global coalition.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the communications team by creating and updating resources and materials and brainstorming new ideas
Assist in the design of outreach materials and content for a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, as well as for the Control Arms website
Help produce campaign materials such as graphics, ads, newsletters, postcards, etc for use in UN actions, campaign stunts, events, etc
Create and edit videos and clips
Assist with updating website content
Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated skill in graphic design
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or other similar graphic design software
Academic background in Graphic Design, Digital and Multimedia Communications, Web Design, New Media, Marketing, or other related fields
Comfortable working on several projects simultaneously
Ability to produce high quality graphics content quickly and efficiently
Ability to think creatively
Superior attention to detail; organizational skills
Effective team player with the ability to think and work independently
Ability to apply a common design to different outreach materials and formats, especially under short deadlines
Fluent in English
Passion for social media and its potential as a campaign and advocacy tool
Affinity with the Secretariat’s goals and objectivesPREFERRED:
Fluency in Spanish, French or Arabic
Ability to edit and format content in multiple languages
Interest in international affairs and the work of the UN
Interest in photojournalism
Knowledge and interest in video and photography editing software
Working knowledge of Wordpress, Posterous, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, Google Analytics and Constant Contact
Knowledge of how to use a variety of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, etc for advocacy or organizational purposes.
