Social Media and Communications InternControl Arms is a global civil society alliance campaigning for a “bulletproof” Arms Trade Treaty that will protect lives and livelihoods. A “bulletproof” Arms Trade Treaty means an international legally-binding agreement that will stop transfers of arms and ammunitions that fuel conflict, poverty and serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.
This winter, the Final Diplomatic Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty will be held from March 18-29 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, NY. Ideally, the Social Media and Communications Intern will be available 3-4 days a week from January through March, including March 17, 24 and 30.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the communications team with updating and creating social tools and other resources
Work on the development of campaign materials for a variety of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, Youtube, etc
Assist with the research, drafting and updating blog posts
Identify and assist with content development for website, including writing/editing articles, and other content.
Monitor developments in online media and draft reports
Attend and take photo/video of press briefings, meetings, lectures related to the ATT
Help fulfill requests for information.
Support staff and undertake special projects and assignments as needed.
Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS
Passion for social media and its potential as a campaign and advocacy tool.
We are interested in applicants whose studies were/are related to Communications, multimedia communications,new media, Journalism, Marketing, and/or other relevant fields.
Knowledge of how to use a variety of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, etc for advocacy or organizational purposes
Excellent written and oral communication, research and analytical skills.
Ability to work proactively in a deadline‐driven environment.
Experience producing online content
Ability to think creatively
Attention to detail; Organizational skills
Effective team player with the ability to work and think independently
Proficiency in English, fluency in other languages helpful
Affinity with the Secretariat’s goals and objectivesPREFERRED:
Fluency in Spanish, French and Arabic
Ability to format content in multiple languageInterest in international affairs and the work of the UN
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, or other similar software.
Working knowledge of Wordpress, Posterous, Excel, PowerPoint and HTML, Google Analytics, and Constant Contact
