Campaign Intern (Jan-May)

Control Arms is a global civil society alliance campaigning for a “bulletproof” Arms Trade Treaty that will protect lives and livelihoods. A “bulletproof” Arms Trade Treaty means an international legally-binding agreement that will stop transfers of arms and ammunitions that fuel conflict, poverty and serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.

This winter, the Final Diplomatic Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty will be held from March 18-29 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, NY. Ideally, the Campaign Intern would be available a couple days a week from January through May, with the ability to work full time during the two weeks of the Conference, as well as March 17, 24 and 30.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Media and Communications
Compile media citations and arms trade news for circulation to the wider coalition
Track indicators of campaign success on Google Analytics
Update Flickr account with new photos and graphics as needed
Assist with production, review and dissemination of our monthly newsletter
Assist with outreach to coalition members and the development of regional activities
Help maintain contact databases
Campaigns
Assist the Campaigns and Communications Officer with conceptualizing and implementing campaign actions and stunts
Create resources for ongoing Control Arms campaign activities
Assist with creating reports on successful Control Arms programs and activities
Website
Post new content to the Control Arms website and make sure it remains up to date
Ensure that French and Spanish versions of the website are up to date with newly translated content
Review existing content for mistakes, inconsistencies, or new content to be translated
Administrative
Take notes during meetings and circulate them to participants
Assist with general office tasks as needed
Other
Assist with logistics for any events taking place in New York, such as roundtable or panel discussions
Participate in March Diplomatic Conference and assist international members as needed
Research new applications for membership to the coalition and update membership lists and database
Research additional grant opportunities and help with fundraising as needed
Conduct research as needed, including finding statistics for use on our website and in social media, etc

Qualifications:

REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced undergraduate or graduate student working towards a degree in International Relations, History, Political Science, or other related fields
Fluent in English, fluency in other languages an asset
Interest or experience with campaigning or community organizing
Excellent attention to detail; Organizational and administrative skills;
Ability to work independently and proactively in a deadline‐driven environment;
Excellent written and oral communication, research and analytical skills;
Effective team player with the ability to work and think independently;
Previous experience working in multicultural environments; culturally sensitive

PREFERRED:
Familiarity with wordpress or other website platforms
Experience with Constant Contact or other constituency management programs
Knowledge of and interest in international security, peacebuilding and/or arms trade helpful

Paid Internship Info:

Unpaid but school credit is possible
